The Boumboulina’s Museum

Spetses was the first island to deploy the flag of the revolution in April 1821. This museum is the actual mansion where Laskarina Boumboulina lived, the world-renowned war heroine of the Greek War of Independence. Perfectly maintained and preserved as it was in her time, the tour of this house around its garden and interior is a real treat. Opened in 1991 by Bouboulina’s descendants, it honors the only female admiral in navy history

Spetses’ Museum

Spetses’ Museum is housed in a two-floor mansion that was initially owned by Hatjiyiannis-Mexis, Spetses’ first governor, and was built in the late 18th century. The house itself is a gorgeous artifact, with amazing island views and beautiful construction. Walk through its doors and be transported back in time when Greece was fighting for existence.

The household artifacts, traditional costumes, weapons, and tools aside, you will also find the museum’s archaeological collections from Mycenean times to modern times.

Hit the beaches

Spetses is known for its gorgeous beaches, usually lined with trees that offer shade and offering beautiful vistas for you to enjoy as you lounge by the emerald waters. Aghioi Anargyroi, Kaiki, Xilokeriza and Aghia Paraskevi are among the best choices to witness the crystal clear waters of the island, enjoy swimmin and sunbathing.

Old Harbour

While every Greek island loves to boast about its harbor, Spetses’s harbor is truly a stunner. Enjoy a morning, afternoon, or even an evening strolling here.

The walk itself is rewarding: as you turn left at the main harbor, the winding road just follows the sea and the old docks, while at night, it is a romantic spot for sunsets.

The Lighthouse

Spetses is home to one of the oldest lighthouses in Greece. Located east of the main town and past the old harbor, it is an easy walk that takes around 45 minutes from the main town. The actual building is fenced off, but the walk is enjoyable and it’s possible to look out over the sea in some of the clearings.
On the way up to the lighthouse, there are some of the best views of the old harbor.
